Energy Makeovers

Energy Makeovers has launched a new NatHERS star rating service in Melbourne metro for existing residential dwellings called EnergyStart priced at $295 including GST.

This new star rating service will allow the thermal performance of existing houses to be compared with the 5 star standard for new houses (increasing to 6 stars in 2011). To date the majority of existing homes score in the range of 1 to 2 stars. Evidence so far shows that the early adopters of this new rating product will be buyers, renovators and sellers. Energy Makeovers anticipate a strengthening market leading up to the introduction of residential mandatory disclosure in May 2011 and increasing participation from “curious maintainers”.

Over time with higher energy / carbon prices and mandatory disclosure the market will attribute more value to homes with higher star ratings. This will lead to increasing demand for products and services that will enable households to improve their star ratings.
