“Energy Makeovers has a non-pushy sales approach. They took time to explain the different system components and provided costings for me to chose from. Installation was hassle free (they were on time and very professional).

Recommend to people looking for a quality system and installation for a long-term piece of mind.”

Become a solar expert: The words you need to know ....

Anti-reflection coating
This is a thin layer of coating on the surface of a solar panel that reduces reflection and improves solar energy transmission.

Base load
A minimum load of power supply that a solar energy system will deliver.

Battery energy capacity
This is a battery’s total energy capacity available (in kWh) that can be discharged without recharging.

Downtime
A period of time when the solar PV system cannot supply energy. This is usually when the sun is not shining or when the panels are shaded.

Inverter
An inverter is a device that allows solar DC energy to be converted into AC useable energy. It is the brains of your solar energy system and the most important part.

Hybrid inverter
These are inverters that can manage electricity directly from solar PV or from a battery where solar energy is being stored. They act as the manager of the energy and can direct the energy where it’s needed.

Solar PV
PV stands for Photovoltaic. Another term for solar panels. These are the technology placed on your roof or on your property that face towards the sun and absorb solar energy.

Interval billing
A data report provided by your energy retailer that provides information on your energy use in 30 minute intervals. This can help you understand how much energy you’re using throughout the day and when solar can benefit you the most.

Load shifting
Load shifting with a battery enables you to store energy and use it when your energy costs are at their lowest. For example if your energy retailer supplies energy at a more expensive cost in the evenings you can use stored solar energy during this time and use your grid-energy when rates are at their cheapest.

Lithium ion battery
A lithium ion battery is a solid based battery. The most famous example would be Tesla’s Powerwall.

Lead acid battery
A lead acid battery is a liquid-based battery. These are more commonly used in cars. A lead acid battery is less practical for solar power because they’re heavier than lithium, higher maintenance and they give off fumes and so need their own room.

MPPT (or Maximum Power Point Tracker)
A power point tracker provides the ability to track the sun’s energy most efficiently and optimise a solar energy system. Larger systems tend to have 2 powerpoint trackers
